If We Could Go Anywhere? – A Honeymoon Abroad

When Jonny and I got married in 2015, we never planned a honeymoon abroad.

Jonny has never been on a plane so it didn’t really cross our minds to plan a “big” honeymoon in another country. As a child I did go abroad a lot, I was so lucky to be able to travel to these amazing places that many other children didn’t have the opportunities to go to. Out of all the places I have ever been, one place has always stood out to me.

Cancun.

While Jonny and I didn’t plan a honeymoon, Cancun is one holiday I would love to go on again. I visited Cancun in 2005 for my sister’s wedding and my whole family instantly fell in love. My sister’s wedding was lovely, the blue seas and gorgeous beaches made a beautiful back drop for getting married. Even though we were in Cancun for a wedding, we also had time to explore. The surroundings are out of this world and honestly like something from a book.

There are a great selection of things to see and do in and around Cancun from scuba diving over the reefs to seeing the amazing sights of the Mayan city, Chichen Itza. As a honeymoon destination, Cancun for me blows everywhere else out of the water. Imagine long romance strolls along the beaches or just enjoying the historic culture of Cancun. You can make your honeymoon what you want either fun and action packed or a slow relaxing holiday. Whatever you pick you are sure to get a once in a life time experience.

A little bit about Cancun

Cancun is situated on the east coast of Mexico. In the last 20 years Cancun has grown from a tiny little jungle village in to one of the world’s number one holiday destinations. It currently has a population of about half a million and their main language is Spanish but there is also around 59 indigenous languages. It’s not surprising Cancun is one of the world’s top destinations when you look at the things to do in the area. Top things to do include; snorkelling, jet skiing, jungle tours and visiting places from Mayan history. A holiday to Cancun can be a sightseeing trip as well as one that is filled to the brim with history. Cancun’s average temperature is around 80 degrees and in a year it has over 240 sunny days, this makes it so desirable.

Cancun would be my pick for my dream honeymoon but many couple do choose Cancun for their wedding destination. There are approximately 46,000 weddings there annually. With its crushed coral white sandy beaches, Cancun makes the most amazing back drop for pictures and memories.

I have always been interested in travel and it is a huge business. Plane is obviously the only way to travel to far away places but how amazing would it be to travel by private jet. But how much does a private jet cost? It goes without saying that it’s not going to be an option for everyone but, perhaps, for such a special occasion, it’s worth maybe looking into and trying to save towards.

  1. This is somewhere I would love to go too! We almost went to Mexico for our honeymoon but were about to start trying for a baby at the time and got scared off by Zika. Definitely on our list to visit!
