Our World Down Syndrome Day

Whether you stayed at home and just thought about all their achievements or spent the day with them, wearing your odd socks and sporting something blue and yellow, World Down Syndrome Day was an amazing day to think about and spend time with the person in your life that happens to have Down Syndrome.

I am so happy with how we spent our day, the weeks of planning really did pay off and the people we have reached is amazing. The countless newspaper and radio interviews I have done since the beginning of March. I spent 3 hours boxing up cupcakes and putting a Down Syndrome Day sticker on the 150 boxes, each with a blue and yellow cupcake in them to give to the local school I was doing an assembly for, but it was all worth it. 100%! I am so grateful for the support I have had from the local media and from friends and family. It was a brilliant day and next year I am hoping to go even bigger and better than this year ( I haven’t got a clue how yet but I will figure it all out!)

I think due to the 50 Mums, 50 Kids video this year the support for World Down Syndrome Day was bigger than it has ever been before. I do sit and wonder if this year we potentially reached out to someone that this time next year will have a beautiful new baby with Down Syndrome. It would be amazing to know that the information we have managed to put out there has helped someone who may not have thought that they had anyone to turn too. One day can mean the absolute world to someone and someone out there might not know that right now that they will be living the same experiences as us. But if they ever are in the same situation as us then they will know there are groups and families out there to help them and guide them in the right direction.
