World Book Day falls on Thursday March 5th this year and this is Elsa’s first World Book Day at school so it is an exciting year for us. There are so many amazing book characters that children could go as for this special day to celebrate books but we have one very very special character in mind.
There is no denying that Elmer the Patchwork Elephant is a classic story. I can remember it from my childhood and I want to make sure that it is part of my children’s too. The book is brilliant for introducing inclusion and acceptance to your children. Elmer may be different from the other Elephants but he is still an Elephant and with that the other Elephants have to learn to accept that and value him.
As a parent, this is something that I want my children to learn from a young and the lovely story of Elmer with the bright and colourful illustrations make it a book that allows children to learn acceptance in a way that is age appropriate for them.
Elsa, Cleo and Brody were very kindly sent a box of Elmer goodies for World Book Day and it has kick started our journey of learning to accept difference and that it is okay to be different. Elmer isn’t just an incredible message but also the book is just beautiful and there are so many books now and you can get them in board books for younger children too.
