It’s about this time of year when many of us start thinking about our New Year resolutions. We might think about trying something new in the year ahead, or we might think about those old habits we want to kick into touch.
You might have a list of resolutions that you intend to make in the year ahead, but if you need a few more, here are some that are home-related.
#1: Finally achieve a clutter-free home
Clutter is a problem many of us have to deal with, and particularly post-Christmas, you might have extra items filling up your living space. Living with clutter, of course, isn’t easy, as it can cause us to feel stressed when we see or stumble into it, so give your yourself and your home a break by getting rid of it. Book a house clearance service to get rid of unwanted items responsibly, or recycle, sell or donate any old belongings yourself.
#2: Reduce the cost of living
Saving money is a common resolution that people make, and it might be something that you’re interested in. But here’s the thing, it’s not always easy, as our household expenses can scupper our plans. Particularly at this time of year when we’re cooking more and keeping the house warm, the ability to save is quite limited. Still, there are ways to reduce the cost of living. You might want to switch utility firms in the new year, and if your insurance renewals are due, you could make the switch to another company or policy if you can find a cheaper deal. You could make the effort to be less reliant on your devices too, perhaps by sticking to those other common resolutions – exercising more and having more bonding time with your family.
#3: Start on the home improvement project you have been considering
Many of us have grand home improvement ideas, but we are sometimes limited from starting on them due to time or money. The other issue, of course, is that we can’t always be bothered with the stress! However, if you are wanting to raise the value of your home, perhaps because you’re intending to move, or if you would like your home to offer more functionality, perhaps 2021 is the year when you finally get the project started. There are some ideas here for saving money on a home renovation, and there is sure to be other advice online if you need any specific guidance on getting your project off the ground.
#4: Have a cleaner home
A cleaner home is something we all dream about, but our job is made difficult because of the mess our pets and children make. There are times when the tasks before us can seem insurmountable too. It’s not easy, but to ensure a cleaner home, there are a few things you can do. For one, create a housework rota, and involve everybody in your household (perhaps with the exception of your goldfish who will be next to useless). If you’re making changes to your home, keep cleanliness in mind, perhaps when you’re choosing new flooring. And look online for housework hacks, as there are plenty of tips available that will help ensure your chores become…well… less of a chore!
Those were just our ideas, but think of your own, and do your very best to stick to them in the year ahead! Thanks for reading.
