Once Again We Are Talking About…The Return To School

I know what you are thinking, another post about the return to school. If you aren’t thinking that then go and check out my other school and corona blog post, I will link them at the bottom of this post.

But here we are again…

This whole thing seems never ending and i know they say that the end is in sight but I can’t be the only one that doesn’t feel like that. The government are talking about children returning on March 8th but that isn’t a definite and it just seems to far away.

I read an article the other day that said that children have been off longer than they were in school in 2020. Over 6 months off school.

I completely understand that they needed to be off. I decided to keep Elsa off when children went back because I was so worried about her getting it and bringing it home. At the start of the pandemic, I was all for schools closing and children having time off. But the closer we get to that one yet milestone of the first lockdown, the more I am realising that the schools need to reopen.

I am still very very worried about the prospect of Elsa getting covid. I am worried about children spreading it to teachers and their families. The fact that I think schools need to open doesn’t stop the anxiety and worry of my own family and other people becoming ill.

It has got to a point now though that I feel the schools need to open. Elsa needs not only her education but her friend and a social life. She needs to mix with other people and not just us and people within our child care/ support bubble.

I have noticed that her attitude and personality has changed. I worry about her mental health, she is 6 and I am worried that she is becoming depressed and have a low mood. I have had her crying because she doesn’t want to stay in the house anymore. It is heartbreaking.

It isn’t just about Elsa either. Cleo is due to start school in September and we wanted to get her settled in nursery for a few months before she started big school and that didn’t look like that was going to happen.

I need a break too. The last year has been hard. Just some time to relax and be normal again would be amazing.

The schools need to open for everyone and not just the school aged children.

  1. It’s such an exhausting dilemma. In Sacramento, California, we’re seeing so many ‘libertarians’ refusing to wear masks that it’s hard to picture a safe return anytime soon. But that social element is so crucial. It’s tiring, isn’t it? We’re so lucky we were able to form a bubble with my daughter’s BFF – that has been a life-saver.
