Nuby Rice Husk Range Review

It is amazing to see all of these new alternatives that are becoming available for children’s products at the moment! These alternatives aren’t just practical and do their intended job but they are also so much better for the environment.

I have never heard for products being made from Rice Husk before so when I saw that Nuby was releasing new weaning and dinnerware that was made out of Rice Husk I wanted to know more.

What is Rice Husk?

During the milling process for rice that we use in things such as cooking, the rice grain and the protective layer on the rice get separated. The protective layer is then called the Rice Husk. Normally this by product is then thrown out. This by product is considered waste and is normally just discarded.

Over the last few years, more companies have been trying to find ways to help the environment and Rice Husk is one of the ways that Nuby have discovered to create weaning and dinnerware products.

What’s available in the range?

The Nuby Rice Husk range is 6 items at the moment. They are frog themed and are suitable for weaning age up to around 6 years or until they use more grown up dinnerware.

The range includes; a bowl, section plate, a 3 pack of spoons, fork and spoon pack, two handled cup and tumbler.

All of these products come in eco friendly packaging too so that is great to see that they have really thought about everything!

The Rice Husk means that when the product is at the end of its life, you can put it in the recycling bin or even put it in the compost bin if you break it up to expose the fibres within the product.

The products themselves are very well made. There are no sharp edges and they feel very tough. Rice Husk makes the product sounds as if it would be flimsy but it isn’t at all. I would say the same as normally plastic dinnerware.

What we think?

Like most families, we are always looking for more environmentally friendly alternatives when it comes to things for the kids.

We do also look for quality too though. It is ok for something to be made from recycled materials but we don’t want to buy it over and over again because the quality just isn’t there. Same goes for price. Some products are through the roof when it comes to price if it has the environmental aspect to it.

All of these point though do not apply to the Nuby range. The quality is amazing and the price is low! It is accessible to everyone due to its price point and it is available from most major shops and online.
