Searching for your forever home can take time but if you are patient, hopefully everything will fall into place.
It can be quite a time consuming and stressful time to seek your perfect home and then go through the whole process of moving, but here are some suggestions as to how you can be as prepared as possible.
Organise Your Paperwork
You want to make sure that you file your paperwork all in one place so that you have all of this to hand should your solicitors or estate agent ring you up to query anything. The following documents will be useful to keep together;
- Utility bills
- Passport/Driving License
- Bank statements
- Payslips (last 3 months)
- Any tax returns
These documents are likely to be required more often than anything else, so they definitely need to be kept in a safe place, particularly for the move itself.
Buy Packing Supplies
Having enough boxes, bubble wrap, stickers and marker pens is definitely useful when you are moving. You can order all of these supplies from the self storage box shop, that way you know you can start packing up your items as soon as you have some supplies.
Buying some of these supplies in bundles can be quite useful as it works out a bit cheaper than buying them individually, especially as you will need quite a few. The sooner you can get these supplies the quicker you can start packing up your things to put into boxes.
Get Childcare For Moving Day
If you have children that are under the age of 10, it is probably better if you can arrange childcare with a family member or friend on moving day. This will enable you to crack on with loading and unloading the moving van with all your possessions without having to worry about your children getting bored or needing a snack.
It will then allow you to get through the move, as swiftly as possible. You can then collect them once you are moved into your new home and are able to spend your first evening together in the new place.
Get Rid of Unwanted Items
You don’t want to transfer all the possessions you currently have into your new home if there are items you could either sell or give to charity. Organising what you will actually need along with what you currently use will help you to sort through your possessions and get rid of anything that you no longer want, wear or use. This will make moving a bit easier if you can have as few possessions to move as possible.
