When you are a parent, you naturally take on more than you can ‘chew’. From work to school to just day to day stuff. It can all get too much.
Parental burnout is a very real thing and it is not a nice feeling to have. The feeling of being completely worn out. No energy but at the same time not being able to sleep. The worry. The feeling of guilt and thinking that you are not doing enough for your family. It is all very real.
What with the pandemic, more and more parents have felt like this. It is ok to feel this way. It is your body and minds way of saying that you need to rest. Take 5 or 10 minutes just for yourself. It is ok not to feel ok.
I wrote a post a little while ago about how to avoid parental burnout so if you feel this way, it may help you.
Life can be stressful and when more and more stuff is then added on, it can feel like a never winning fight. One more thing then another then another. The next thing you know, it is all too much.
It in no way makes you a bad parent. Taking time for yourself can help make you become the best version of yourself. It not only is good for your but also your children. We all need a break from time to time.
But I will be honest and say that I need to practise what I preach. Juggling life and everything else that comes with it is hard work. I find myself being really tired and not motivated to do anything. Full on parental burnout.
It is ok to take a break and it is ok not to feel ok.
