With Women’s football being the topic that most people are talking about. I thought it was a good idea to talk about the dark side of social media regarding the Lionessess. The hate that women in sport have to experience and what other women and girls have to see written about women that are breaking bounderies.
The England Women’s team may not have won the World Cup final but they have won the hearts of women everywhere. Football has been seen as ‘male’ sport for many many years and now that women are entering the sport and smashing it, there is so much hate online. From sexism to just pure toxic comments from men. Men that have women in their lives. They have mothers, grandmothers, sisters, daughters and wives and yet they think the comments they make are ok.
They are not. Some of the comments that I have witness are horrific. They are things that would never be said to the male football teams of the UK.
England Womens have come so far and they have made this country so proud. Yet online, people seem to think it is ok to comment what what they look like, their sexuality and that they as women just shouldn’t play the sport. One comment said they should be in the kitchen and not on the pitch.
