Duxford Imperial War Museum Review

Duxford is the place to be for plane and history lovers of all ages!

Duxford Imperial War Museum is located in Cambridgeshire and is just off M11 so it very easy to get to. Parking at Duxford is free and there is a large carpark.

Duxford has decades of history, and the airfield itself has its own history from the World Wars. No matter where you explore at Duxford, there will be an interesting and amazing history to discover. They say half a day is needed to explore Duxford, but I would recommend a whole day there as there is so much to explore. Duxford is a working airfield, so planes land and take off as you walk around the hangers. This is weather dependant, though.

The whole of Duxford feels like you are stepping into different decades of flight. From the WW2 hangers and buildings that are still there and in use as aircraft restoration and storage to the furturisic American history hanger. Duxford has a multi-generation feel to it. There are parts which will take older people back in time and then there are parts which show how far planes and flight has come and feels very modern.

There are certain planes that can be explored inside, including Concorde. It is incredible to see a massive part of history so close. Without Duxford , younger generations wouldn’t be able to see and explore these parts of history and know their importance.

The facilities at Duxford are amazing. There are cafes and resturants. Lots of toilet blocks and a changing places facility as well as disabilty play equipment in the new play area which is located close to the entrance. The new play area is amazing and children will love it. It even features a wood play plane for children to explore!
