Reasons to Buy the Fixer-Upper

When it comes to buying a home, there’s a lot of talk surrounding the fact that you get what you pay for and it’s absolutely true. In the real estate market of today, you are going to have to go through a number of inspection certifications and approvals just to be able to get the property you want in the first place.

You’re going to have people come to check out the home, you’re going to have it surveyed and you’re going to have to speak to a mortgage advisor to actually even afford the property. There are a lot of hoops to jump through when it comes to buying a house, and even when you’re jumping through all of those hoops, you may still turn your nose up at the idea of buying a fixer upper.

When you’ve gone through such a long process, the last thing you want to do is to have even more of a process to go to just to get the house up to scratch. The thing is, when you buy the fixer upper, you get a chance to make a crumbling old home your own. You can contact companies such as Bristol Lime and have it restored to the way it should be. You can go in and replace all the flooring to match the vision you’ve always had and you can even rip out the bathtubs and put in the claw foot when you’ve always dreamed of. The fixer upper home is absolutely worth it and here are 3 reasons why.

  • You could move into your dream neighborhood. Most people have an idea of the type of neighbourhood they’d like to move into. But what if the neighbourhood you want doesn’t offer you something affordable? Nobody wants to be house poor, so it doesn’t make sense just to blow your life savings on a residence. However, if in that dream neighbourhood there is a fixer upper that is within your price range and you’ll still need to invest some more money into it to get it looking and feeling the way you want it to, then it’s absolutely worth it.
  • You could end up with a bigger house. You might only be able to afford 1800 square feet in a normal housing market, but in the same market you might be able to get double that for less money if you’re willing to put in some work. Tackling a few renovations is a small price to pay to get the home of your dreams, especially if you can get the floor plan of your dreams too.
  • You have the opportunity to bring your vision to life. Whatever you’ve imagined your home to be, it’s time to start putting that into place. One of the primary reasons people buy a Fixer Upper property is because they want to make the space their own and bring their vision they’ve had in their head for years to complete life. You get to dictate where all the elements are placed and you get to design the layout and choose the materials
