I’m all for supporting fellow bloggers when they work on something so hard so when Cheryl Lee-White from The Simple Mum got in touch and asked if Elsa and Cleo would like to review her new children’s book, Pete the Cheeky Parakeet I couldn’t wait to receive it in the post.
Children’s books should be colourful with bright pictures and the words should be easy to follow. Cheryl Lee-White’s book is just that, each page has a short rhyming paragraph with a large corresponding colour picture. On each page, the background is a different colour, adding to the colourful and fun theme of the book. Cheryl’s writing in rhyme reminds of Dr Seuss, the way in which it is written with short sentences and rhymes at the end of the sentence. It means the book flows so well and is an easy read not only for adults but for children who are a bit further in their reading journey.
Pete the Cheeky Parakeet is the story of a bird with a bad attitude who after his favourite person in the family goes on holiday, learns that he has to change his ways and not have such a bad attitude to everyone. The story teaches children an important message about the right attitudes to have and about friendship while still being light hearted and funny.
As a parent who loves to buy books, it is great to see a book that is both child friendly as it is colourful, rhyming and easy to read but at the same time it shares an important message about friendship and attitudes for children. You can share a message and talk about it more with your children easily with the help of a book like this. It addresses subjects that other wise would be a boring conversation for young children.
Elsa loves reading this book with me and is starting to have a go at reading the words herself. It is going to be a book that is on our bookshelf for years to come and I can imagine it won’t be long before Elsa can read it on her own.
Cheryl Lee-White (The Simple Mum ) also has another book called The Book of Silly Rhymes and both, this book and Pete the Cheeky Parakeet are available from Amazon now!
